Esta noche pasada Gonzalo, Guillermo y yo nos fuimos a una playa nudista, pero algo tímidos que somos, nosotros íbamos con vadeador y tapados hasta las orejas (algo de más que frio no hizo ninguno). Con el mar choco de todo, las esperanzas de unas buenas capturas se esfumaron como las pequeñas olas que apenas rompían en la orilla. Mi segundo lance del MaxRap amarillo atrae a una lubinita de un tamaño similar a la que vemos en el video, aunque clavada solo por el labio con el anzuelo de atrás y por tanto sufrió algo menos. Fue devuelta a las aguas bastante cálidas de donde salió. Gonzalo, como tiene costumbre y gran afición, se dedicó al Surf Casting con un cebo estupendo (Choquitos) que bien se merecieron los 37 céntimos que costaron. Guillermo y yo al spinning como también tenemos costumbre.  Unos cuantos lances y yo engancho una alga rarísima que se ve en una foto. Una pequeña sorpresa. Mas lances para aquí y allí y me pica la segunda lubina que vemos en el video. Alguna otra picada hubo pero no fueron clavadas y mejor así que tampoco eren más grandes que las anteriores. Termina nuestra noche con el sol anunciándose por atrás del monte y con Gonzalo cabreado (ni picada. Raro en un sitio donde los sargos tienen costumbre de pasear). Creo que Gonzalo tardará mucho en volver a pisar esta playa, por lo menos vestido.

Last night Gonzalo, Guillermo and me went to a nudist beach, but being a little shy as we are, we went in waders and covered up to our ears (a bit too much because it wasn’t cold at all). With the sea totally dead, our expectations of some good catches faded away as did the surf of the small waves that hardly broke on the shore. On my second cast the yellow MaxRap lured a small sea bass similar in size to the one we see in the video although hooked by the lip on the back hook and so suffered somewhat less. It was returned to the rather warm waters it had come from. Gonzalo, as is custom and a great fan, dedicated himself to Surf Casting with an excellent bait (baby cuttlefish), well worth the 37 cents they cost. Guillermo and I to our spinning as is our custom. A few casts and I reel in some very strange seaweed as you can see in the picture. A small surprise. More casts here and there and I hook the second sea bass we see in the video (sorry it’s in Spanish but you get the point). We had a few more strikes but without hooking and for the best because they weren’t any bigger than the ones before. Our nights fishing ends with the sun announcing its’ rising from the other side of the hill and Gonzalo slightly annoyed (not one bite. Strange in an area where the sea bream have a habit in passing). I think it’ll be a long time before Gonzalo steps on that beach again, at least not dressed.

Spinning con el Maestro / Spinning with the Master

Es la primera vez que me siento tan orgulloso de escribir una entrada en el blog en la cual yo no pesque nada, pero hoy escribo con el cuerpo aun vibrante de mi experiencia de haber estado pescando al lado de un maestro como es Carlos también conocido como Sargoloco.

Tres horas con Carlos equivale a tres años pescando solo. Solo ver y observar ya es una clase en sí, pero que encima te hable, explique y comparta su conocimiento vale más que leerse todos los libros escritos sobre este tema y un honor para mí que lo hubiera hecho como amigo. Su manejo de caña, señuelos pero mas aun sus palabras son inigualables. Por muchas más veces que pueda repetir la experiencia (y espero que sean muchas) jamás podre olvidarme de esta primera. Me falta mucho conocimiento del castellano para expresarme como me gustase solo puedo decir una horterada como que si mañana me tragase una ola morería feliz de haber tenido esta jornada de pesca con el maestro.

No os cuento cuantas pescó porque perdí la cuenta, pero fueron muchas.

Un gran pescador, un gran profesor y si cabe aun mas grande como persona.

It’s the first time I feel so proud of writing an entry in the blog in which I don’t fish anything, but today I write still vibrant from the experience of having fished next to a master such as is Carlos also known as Sargoloco.

Three hours with Carlos is equivalent to three years fishing alone. Just watching is a master class in itself, but if on top of that he talks, explains and shares his knowledge is worth more than reading every book written on the subject and for me an honour that he did it as a friend. His handling of the rod, lures but above all language is unsurpassed. However many more times I repeat the experience (and I hope they’re many) I shall never forget this first time. I lack knowledge in castellano (Spanish) to express myself as I’d like to and can only say something naff like if a wave where to swallow me up tomorrow I’d die happy his of having had this days fishing with the master.

I won’t tell you how many he fished because I lost count but they were many.

A great angler, a great teacher and, if possible, an even greater person.

Thank you Carlos. You are the light in a dark world full of rats.

Guillermo, dos lubinas, Yo y el Sargo que aspiraba a ser Lubina. / Guillermo, two Sea Bass, Me and the Bream that aspired to be a Sea Bass.

Esta mañana bien temprano Guillermo, Gonzalo y yo pisamos arenas gallegas con esperanzas, animo y bien equipados para la pesca.

Gonzalo se dedicó al Surf Casting mientras Guillermo y yo sacamos nuestros señuelos y nos entramos en unas aguas saladas y corrientes fuertes. En los primeros minutos con un señuelo Daiwa Saltiga color sardina tengo picada. Mi sorpresa y la de los hermanos fue ver salir un sargo de medio kilo el cual debía tener complejo de Lubina. Si, ¡un sargo! La pesca no hace más que sorprenderme. Pasa algún tiempo y tengo otra picada esta vez sí, es Lubina pero un bebé que fue soltada de inmediato para poder crecer. Guillermo y yo pateamos kilómetro y medio de playa primero para allá y luego de vuelta. Pasan las horas y yo ya hecho polvo descanso y acompaño a Gonzalo que no estaba teniendo suerte. Al poco rato vuelve Guillermo y también se toma un descanso. Abre el día y Guillermo vuelve a la acción. Tercer o cuarto lance tiene picada y saca su primer Lubina, 1,5 Kg. Yo me animo y salgo corriendo y vuelvo a lanzar, tengo picada pero no clavo bien y se suelta mientras Guillermo vuelve a sacar otra Lubina, 1,6 Kg. El que sigue la consigue. Una vez más Guillermo me gana (yo digo que es la juventud y la suerte del principiante, pero solo lo digo, no me lo creo).

El Señuelo es un Shimano.

 

This morning bright and early Guillermo, Gonzalo and myself step onto Galician sands with hope, and well equipped for some fishing.

Gonzalo dedicates himself to Surf Casting while Guillermo and I take out our lures and enter the salt water and strong currents. In the first few minutes I have a hit with a sardine colour Daiwa Saltiga. To my and the brothers surprise we see a half kilo Sea Bream emerge from the surf which must have had a Sea Bass complex. Yes, a Sea Bream! Fishing never seizes to surprise me. Some time passes and I get another hit, this time it’s a Sea Bass but just a baby that is immediately returned to the water so as to grow up. Guillermo and I walk the 1.5 kilometre beach in one then the other direction. The hours pass and with me now completely tired out I take a rest and accompany Gonzalo who’s not having much luck. A short time later we’re joined by Guillermo who also takes some time out. Day breaks and Guillermo returns to action. Third or fourth cast and Guillermo has a hit and reels in a 1.5 Kg Sea Bass. I get excited and run to cast again. I have a hit but don’t hook it well and gets free while Guillermo pulls out another 1.6 Kg Sea Bass. He who dares wins. Again Guillermo wins the day (I put it down to youth and beginners luck, but I only say this, I don’t believe it).

The lure is a Shimano.

El Día de Guillermo / Guillermo’s Day

El protagonista de hoy sin duda alguna es Guillermo. Ayer (lunes) volvimos a la posta del día anterior. La mar estaba algo más movida y el viento también. Por mi parte en el segundo lance perdí otro artificial, y después solo puedo presumir de 2 Agujas (aunque una era muy tocha). Pero Guillermo me metió una pasada tremenda y me alegro (pero no te pases Guillermo).

Empezó con una lubina peleándose contra los elementos que no fue poco, olas de mucha fuerza, duchas de agua salada y aire, y que vemos en el video como la devuelve al mar. Luego 2 caballas, cambio de postura y la segunda lubina que vemos en una de las fotos, la cual pensamos que había muerto por la manera que anzueló y metimos en una poza pero cuando volvimos a mirar se había pirado (suerte pequeña espero que sobreviviera). Luego, en el parado, pues la mar ya no dejaba trabajar bien, saca una sarreta bonita (Abadejo pequeño) seguido por otra caballa y otra sarreta. Trabajó y sudó como un cosaco y dio sus frutos. Enhorabuena Guillermo te lo merecistes.

El señuelo fue un Mega Bait flotante que son bastante baratos si los encuentras y os enseño en la foto.

The star today is without any doubt Guillermo (Henry). Yesterday (Monday) we returned to the spot we had been the day before. The sea was somewhat rougher and rather windy as well. On my part, on the second cast I lost yet another lure and then all I can boast were 2 needlefish (although one was very fat). But Guillermo surpassed me by far of which I’m pleased (but don’t go too far Guillermo).

He started with a sea bass fighting against the elements which was no small feat, very strong waves, showers of salt water and wind, and which we see in the video returning to the sea. Then he followed with 2 mackerel, changed position and his second sea bass which we see in the picture and which we thought had died because of the way it hooked. We put it in puddle but when we returned it had set itself free (god luck little one I hope you survive). Then, in the calm water, because the sea no longer allowed us to work the lures properly, he pulled out a small pollack then another mackerel and another pollack. He worked and sweated like nobody and reaped his rewards.

The lure was a floating Mega Bait which are quite cheap if you can find them and I show in one of the pics.

Spinning con Gonzalo y Guillermo

Hoy Domingo 24 de Julio quedé con Gonzalo (un compañero de pesca de lo mejorcito) para ir a la ría y coger cangrejitos verdes para probar la suerte con las Doradas mañana Lunes, pero el día estaba feo y cuando llamó quedamos de acuerdo en ir a Santa Cistina esta noche con algo de navaja y americano que le había sobrado de ayer.  En principio hablamos de quedar a las 8:00 en la playa, pero al poco rato me llama diciendo que su hermano (Guillermo) quería hacer algo de spinning  y a donde les aconsejaba ir. Bueno, “spinning”, ¡con lo que me gusta! ¡Me apunté de inmediato! Yo le había dejado mi coche a un primo pero Gonzalo y Guillermo me vinieron a buscar y allá nos fuimos.

Llegamos con la marea baja (lo cual tiene que estar para ese sitio) y montamos. Yo llevé mi Beast Master “Sea Bass” de 3,60mt y mi Twin Power FB 5000 (Bobina con trenzado del 0,19mm “Fireline XDS”. El trenzado empatado a un giratorio y unos 60cm de fluorocarbono “Seaguar Soft” del 0,33mm terminando con un clip Rapala). Empecé con un Duo CD 75 y poco tardé en clavar la primera Lubina. Al poco rato Gonzalo clava otra, algo pequeña pero se la merecía quedar. Su hermano (algo impaciente y no quiso perder tiempo montando el fluorocarbono) se le escapa otra. Después clava una aguja y algo más tarde yo clavé otra. A Gonzalo le pica una Lubina 2 ó 3 veces hasta llegar casi a la orilla pero sale pitando al ver a Gonzalo posado en la roca (que mala suerte) Guillermo pilla otra aguja y yo cambio a un Duo CD 110. Varios Lances y clavo la segunda y última Lubina de la jornada. Poco después engancho y me rompe el hilo (otro Duo perdido, Gonzalo también perdió un señuelo que no le sentó nada bien). Nos dan las 9 y pico y es hora de marchar, aunque Guillermo (Henry en inglés) sigue insistiendo, lo raro es que es él precisamente el que tiene que marchar (¡lo que es vicio!).

Los 3 empapados de olas traicioneras, nos cambiamos y tengo que cancelar el plan de ir a Santa Cristina con Gonzalo pues no podía con el culo (la edad no perdona).

Today, Sunday 24^th July I had a date with Gonzalo (the best fishing partner) to go and collect a few green crab from the estuary to try our luck with the Gilt Headed Bream tomorrow Monday, but it was an ugly day and when he phone we agreed to go to Santa Cristina (beach) tonight with some “navaja – Ensis Macha” and Blood Worm he had left over from yesterday. We first talk about meeting at Santa Cristina at 8:00 but shortly after he phoned to say that his brother (Guillermo) wanted to do some spinning and where would I advise them to go. Well, “Spinning”, how I love spinning! I immediately invited myself! I’d lent my car to a cousin but Gonzalo and Guillermo came to pick me up and off we went.

We arrived at low tide (which it has to be for that place) and set up. I took my Beast Master “Sea Bass” 3.60mt rod and my Twin Power FB 5000 (spool with braid “Fireline XDS” 0.19mm. Attached to the braid I put a swivel followed by about 60cm of Seaguar Soft 0.33mm fluorocarbon finishing with a Rapala clip). I started with a Duo CD 75 and soon hooked my first sea bass. Not long after Gonzalo hooked another, small but he deserved to keep it. His brother (a bit impatient and didn’t want to waste time setting up with fluorocarbon) hooks another but it gets free. He then hooks a needlefish and some time later I hook another. Gonzalo has a sea bass after his lure a bites 2 or 3 times until nearly reaching the shore but shoots off as soon as it sees Gonzalo poised on the rock (such bad luck) Guillermo catches another needlefish and I change to a Duo CD 110. A few more casts and I hook my second and last sea bass of the day. Shortly afterward I snag the lure and snap the line (another Duo lost! Gonzalo had also lost a lure which upset him somewhat) It’s now something past 9:00 and time to go, although Guillermo (Henry in English) is still insistent. The strange thing is it’s him that has to leave (that’s vice for you).

With all 3 of us soaked from treacherous waves we get changed and I have to cancel my plans to go to Santa Cristina with Gonzalo for I was knackered (age has no mercy).

Los señuelos Duo “Tide Minnow” CD 75 y 110 son de mis favoritos. Al ser “Sinking” (Hundidos) hay que tener cuidado en las rocas para no perderlos, por hecho el 110 de la foto no fue el que pescó, pues el color “Sardina” que utilicé lo enganche y perdí como explico en la crónica.

Estos artificiales tienen una acción más de “Rolling” que de “Wobble”, es decir, más culeteo.

El “Seaguar Soft” hace un nudo perfecto y fuerte (los fluorocarbonos suelen ser rigidos y pueden fallar en el nudo), y los clips de Rapala me encantan y son un poco más baratos que los “Owner”.

The Duo “Tide Minnow” CD 75 and 110 are of my favourites. Being sinking you have to be careful on the rocks not to lose them, in fact, the 110 in the picture isn’t the one used to fish because the “sardine” colour used got snagged and I lost it as I explain in the article.

These lures have more of a rolling action than wobble.

The “Seagaur Soft” makes a perfect knot, good and strong (fluorocarbon can be rigid and can fail at the knot). The clips are Rapala and I’m delighted with them and are little cheaper than the “Owner”.

Paseantes y Poppers Ligeros

Primero Me gustaría, como tengo costumbre, de darle la bienvenida a Josep M. Pons.

Josep tiene un blog estupendo con unas fotos impresionantes de unas capturas que en Galicia solo podemos mirar y caernos la baba. Su blog ya está añadido a mi lista como “Pesca Costa Brava” o http://pescacostabrava.blogspot.com/

Bueno, hoy tuve la oportunidad la salir un rato y aproveche para hacer un video de los Paseantes y Poppers pequeños. El video no es que saliera muy bien pero espero que os de una idea de esta pesca que a mi tanto me gusta.

Este video está mas bien pensado para gente de Kayak o donde hay muchos bajos y se corre el peligro de enganche y perder el artificial.

Los Poppers los suelo trabajar de 2 maneras. Un tirón, Espera, otro tirón, espera etc.

Y 2 ó 3 tirones, espera, 2 ó 3 tirones, espera etc.

El Hilo de Sufix (Duraflex 0,25mm) se porto muy, muy bien. Aun está por probar con una pieza pero la primera impresión ha sido genial. Lanza muy bien, no rizó ni me hizo ninguna vuelta en falso. Para un hilo económico me dejo muy sorprendido.

Espero que la cámara nueva no tarde mucho y pueda hacer algo mejor. El domingo si el clima me lo permite saldré otra vez y haber si veis sacar una pieza aunque no sea muy grande.
